She’s a Maniac, Maniac With The Words… #WIPmo CHECK IN!

I was sort of a maniac this week because I finally sent my manuscript back to my agent Thursday am. *dances all sweaty in sexy layers and legwarmers* And when I say sweaty and layers, it’s actually pretty legit. I was sick as hell and the husband was away for work so I don’t know how it got done but it did. Miracles do happen! (But really only cuz my twelve year old helped w/ toddler duties when he got home from school two days in a row). But I’m alive and back in business and totes ready to get writing like a maniac on my WIPmo WIP that I haven’t touched all month. For real guys!

No, really–Prom B*tch is back at my agent and I finally opened the WIP up and am going to hit it hard–starting tomorrow. I swear!

How did everyone else do—tell us where you’re at with your WIP in the comments.

  1. Name: Ami

    Category/Genre:YA Contemporary

Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: 40,658/I forgot what my original goal was–here’s a new one: 60K

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: I sent revised ms back to agent for first pass! *crossing fingers that it doesn’t suck

Here’s what kind of sucked: being so sick for a couple days that I could barely sit up at my laptop–and sometimes didn’t.

This week I am going to rule at: writing without being so freakishly self-edity

  2. Name: Sonia

    Category/Genre: NA Psychological Suspense

Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: Current: 62k Hoping for: 65k to 70k

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: Started third draft of my WIP. I kind of, sort of, totally love this story.

Here’s what kind of sucked: While trying to increase word count, I keep finding things I can cut. I’m playing the add a word/take a word game right now when I really just want to add, add, add.

This week I am going to rule at: Getting my word count to the desired goal before starting fourth draft edits.

  3. Congrats on sending off to your agent, Ami!

    Name: Rachel

    Category/Genre: YA contemporary

Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: 53K/60K

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: Started falling in love with this story. Sent first half to a CP, who justified that love 🙂

Here’s what kind of sucked: The ending is much darker and more emotional than anything I’ve written before. I hope I can pull it off!

This week I am going to rule at: Conquering that ending with the right about of heartbreaking-ness!

  4. Name: Ruby

    Category/Genre: YA Thriller

Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: 43136/ 60-65k

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: broke through my wall!

Here’s what kind of sucked: too busy to continue on said break through.

This week I am going to rule at: finishing the high drama that is the chapter I’m writing.

  5. Name: RAAACHEEEELLLLL

    Category/Genre: YA Contemporary

    Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: 40,000 / hopefully 51k but we’ll see…

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: I nailed a chapter about a seriously taboo topic. This book worries me (re: querying it) but it’s also probably the best thing I’ve written.

Here’s what kind of sucked: I was sick last week so I spent a lot of time not writing and more whining. LOL.

This week I am going to rule at: Hopefully getting to 41 or 42k 🙂

  6. Name: Noelle

    Category/Genre: Contemporary YA

Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: 82K / I don’t even know anymore….this book keeps growing and growing, but it needs to, so I’m holding on for the ride. Hopefully I’ll stop somewhere around 90K. Ugh, typing that makes me want to weep.

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: Writing the last chapter, when all the words were flowing and perfect.

Here’s what kind of sucked: Realizing the next chapter wasn’t going to flow nearly as well…and coming to grips with the fact that my 85K-word finish wasn’t happening. I was so close! And now I feel so far again. 😦

This week I am going to rule at: Being undistractable. I’m going to eat, breathe and sleep this book until it’s done.

  7. Name: Geni

    Category/Genre: YA Magical Realism

Current Word Count/Anticipated WC for “The End”: 54k/60k?

Here’s what rocked in my writing life this week: had to add/change some scenes unexpectedly (see below) and ended up with the leading man doing something totally and completely in character that I’d never anticipated. Very cool. And you WIP-mo-ers. Even when I’m quiet, I still appreciate seeing what you’re up to. It’s inspiring.

Here’s what kind of sucked: Yeah, those unexpected changes. Discovered my time line had a gap. Spent a day outlining/rethinking to get the time to flow more naturally

This week I am going to rule at: Gap filling! Heading out for a three day work conference and am so pathetically excited for the nights in the hotel alone with my computer. (I know, I already said pathetically)
