WipMo Check-In 3/5 WhoaOH! We’re halfway there…WhoaOH! Living on (insert vice) & a prayer

keep-calm-and-take-my-hand-we-ll-make-it-i-swear

Hey you. It’s me. I hope everyone is getting the writing and revising done that they’d hoped to get done so far. We’re about halfway through and I’m happy with where I’m at, even though I always feel I can do better. But sometimes when you’re living on candy, prayers, coffee, or pub dreams, (& there’s no Mary Poppins to take care of other life business) you can only squeak out so many words or hours in a day to write.

I was pretty busy this week (see my I Got A Book Deal post here) but somehow managed to get all my writing goals/work crammed into today. And I don’t feel like a loser about it. Yay! It wasn’t just me pounding out words just for the sake of words. I did timed writing sessions ( thanks to everyone who joined in and motivated). Even though I was timing my sessions, I didn’t put any pressure on myself for having a certain amount of words, so that helped. In a little over six hours, I got almost 5,000 words. And now with my left over writing time, I’m going to draft up this blog. Then, when my daughter is falling asleep tonight, I’ll sit in her room and work on that pitch for my WIP that I made a goal to do.

How did you guys do? Let me know in the comments and also, if you had a magic ONE HOUSEHOLD CHORE fairy for the week, what would that fairy do?

1. Name & Twitter Handle.

2. Did you meet your goals this past week? How’d it go?

3. This weeks goals are… (don’t be cheap, y’all)

4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time? (Cleaning? Cooking? Driving? Babysitting? Something else?)

HAPPY WRITING THIS WEEK YOU GUYS!

    2. Did you meet your goals this past week? How’d it go?

I did! And I had a revelation so all the words I wrote down JUST to get to the goal could be deleted and replaced with actual words that don’t suck. Go me!

    3. This weeks goals are… (don’t be cheap, y’all)

Not to die. Seriously. On top of work, writing, editing, CPing, etc., we’re supposed to be closing on our house in 8 days. I just want the stress to not kill me before that day. If I get any words on the page, we’ll call that gravy.

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time? (Cleaning? Cooking? Driving? Babysitting? Something else?)

If it’s for THIS week, the magic fairy would pack and move and clean my apartment. Any other week, dishes. I hate dishes and they never end.

Welllll…between a surprise migraine (computer screens BAAAD) and day job issues, I let my writing goal fall by the wayside. HOWEVER, I am one read-through away from finishing this revision sweep, and will hopefully finish that tonight to send to my agent, along with a clear timeline. So that’s something.

    3. This weeks goals are… (don’t be cheap, y’all)
Assuming I get the revision sent out (I will!) this week is straight drafting. Hoping to get to 40K words or beyond, which is totally doable if I’m not a slacker. I’m currently just under 30K.

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time?
Ummm, if the fairy could come and clean/organize my entire apartment, I would be forever grateful and PROMISE not to mess it up again (before Christmas).

    2. Did you meet your goals this past week? How’d it go?
Yes, but my goal was to start, so…
I had a SPECTACULAR day off on Tuesday. I wrote all day (with a yoga break- I mean, do days get better than that??) and not only found a main character I adore, but got a sense of what she’s doing in the story. I’d done a fair amount of plotting, but feeling it was great to finally get her on paper. The less of the week was not so good. Here’s to the next holiday.

Words. Any words, but if I could knock out another chapter or two, I’d be thrilled. I’m crazy busy (like double the normal workload) at work, we’re trying to sell a house, and I’m still a Mommy.

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time? (Cleaning? Cooking? Driving? Babysitting? Something else?)
Fixing dinner. I love to cook, or I did pre-child, but trying to fix dinner every night in 30 minutes or less for a husband and child with exactly opposite tastes wears me down. I’d even give the fairy weekends off b/c takeout. 😉

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR DOING THIS AMI and AN EXTRA HOORAY FOR YOUR AWESOME BOOK DEAL!!!

  4. And I even have a typo in my post. Does that answer all questions??? Ugh!

    2. Did you meet your goals this past week? How’d it go?

I did! Barely. But still. Goal met. I’m just over 40k (by 33 words to be exact).

    3. This weeks goals are… (don’t be cheap, y’all)

Hoping to get another 10k this week. 15k if I’m feeling frisky. Ultimate goal is to get this WIP done before Thanksgiving, so that will keep me on track.

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time? (Cleaning? Cooking? Driving? Babysitting? Something else?)

Work my day job for me. That would be awesome. My oldest would be at school and the little one in daycare, and I could have eight solid hours during the day to write with no distractions.

Congrats again on your book deal Ami!!!

  6. So far everyone is looking PRETTY good. And Geni-I didn’t notice your typo!

    1. Ami @amilouiseallen

    2. Did you meet your goals this past week? I did it!! 4798 words & I wrote the pitch/query for the ms my agent is currently reading.

    3. This weeks goals are… (don’t be cheap, y’all) 4,000 words & tighten the query & synopsis for the same (brand new) WIP.

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time? (Cleaning? Cooking? Driving? Babysitting? Something else?) I need all these fairies but I’m choosing the babysitter fairy so I have more writing time while my husband is working. I also really believe that the time I’d spend with the kids would be better quality if I knew the fairy was on the way & I wasn’t trying to sneak in a few words here or there OR stressing about the time I’m not writing. 😉

  7. First things first. WAY TO GO AMI!

    1. Name & Twitter Handle.

    2. Did you meet your goals this past week? How’d it go?
It’s ten ’til midnight here (that’s 1:50 EST) and I’m finally getting to this. Even though we have Strep Throat going around the family, this past week I wrote a few more scenes and researched enough to say I MET MY GOAL! This WIP is really taking a turn towards the science fiction side and I’m either going to have to go with it and clean it up later or try to steer back to the contemporary story I originally planned. (But the unexpected is a lot more fun, so I’ll probably keep going with it this sci fi version.)

    3. This weeks goals are… (don’t be cheap, y’all)
I’m going to write the basics of five more chapters. And I’m not going to get Strep.

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time? (Cleaning? Cooking? Driving? Babysitting? Something else?)
That fairy could take her pick; dishes or laundry. Either one of those out of my way for a week, I’d kill it with the words to paper.

    2. Week 2 was harder, but I survived. I got extra editing done (7 extra chapters! I was on a roll!) but not quite enough writing (3K short of final goal). I ended up changing a major plot thread, and now I have to regroup the 2nd half of my NaNo novel. Overall, I’m counting it as a win, because I still got a lot done. I’m also a bit behind on my reading for the book club challenge, but I’m making progress. I figured if something had to go, it was the reading.

    3. NEW GOALS:
Edit Ch 27-39, based on CP notes.
Write 15K in NaNo Novel (Total should equal 55K by next Sunday, this includes making up for the 3K I’m behind from last week, so technically I need to write 18K *gulps*)
Read 2 more books for my book club trilogy challenge (Death Cure & Prodigy)

    4. If you had a magic fairy for the week, what would that fairy do so you’d have more writing time?
My fairy would run constant interference to stop any interruptions to my writing/editing including:
    1. Managing the dogs (particularly the puppy), playing with them, and putting them in and out, so I don’t have to constantly get up or deal with their needy behaviors.
    2. Socializing with my long term house guests in the evenings, so I can focus on my #WIPmo goals
    3. Nudging me awake every time I sit down to work and start to nod off
    4. Ensuring my tea/coffee cup is always full with perfectly heated beverages, so I never have to get up during a writing/editing session
(Yep, I think I’m cheating at this point, but I’m pretty excited about this fairy!)

    2. I… did not meet my goal this week. I’d planned to do some necessary research before starting a draft read-through, but then college killed me. Repeatedly. So…that did NOT happen. I did work up a short story for a horror class and accomplish some other writing-type things, though, so.

    3. In the absence of meeting last week’s goals, they’re rolling over to this week. Research. Read-through of draft. Trying to tweak things to get ready for beta-readers as soon as possible.

    4. How about a homework fairy to take care of everything but the assignments that require creative writing?
